Silca's Youth B dedicate the podium to teammate Pietro De Pizzol
Aruffo from Vicenza and Carniato from Treviso win the Triathlon Kids (Junior) in Revine
Today, Sunday 2 July in Santa Maria 380 youngsters from all over the north-east and beyond
Spectacle on the Santa Maria lake with 380 very young athletes, aged 6 to 19, at the Triathlon Kids in Revine Lago (TV). Great competitiveness for the older ones, who have already trodden the national and international stages, but also great excitement for the younger ones, many of whom tried this discipline combining swimming, cycling and running for the first time. And great emotion, that of Giulia Secchi, Giulia Meneghetti and Elisa Maria Cicchini, the three home athletes of Silca Ultralite Vittorio Veneto, the organising company, who coloured the podium of the Youth B category and dedicated it to their teammate Pietro De Pizzol, 16 years old from Fratta di Tarzo, victim of a cycling accident on 23 December 2021, who is facing a long rehabilitation path. To open the day of competition, the competition dedicated to the older athletes, the Juniors. In the men's event, after 400 metres, the first to leave the lake water was the eve's favourite, Giovanni Aruffo (Leosport), a fortnight ago in the top ten at the Europe Triathlon Junior Cup in Izvorani, Romania. Aruffo was the protagonist of a solitary ride along the 10 kilometres (over four laps) of cycling. A group of seven to eight athletes chased and tried to close the gap on the outriders, but remained 40 seconds behind. In the last 2.5 kilometres of the foot race Aruffo controlled and maintained a sufficient lead to raise his arms over the finish line and win in 33'22''. Behind him Sander Cazzin (Eroi del Piave; 33'52'') and Giovanni Spagnolo (Tri Schio; 34'02''). Satisfied with the victory Aruffo, this year's bronze medallist at the aquathlon tricolours. "It was an important test in view of next week's tricolours at the Bandie - comments the 18-year-old high school student from Schio, who trains in Creazzo - I am happy with the victory, last year I had participated but I was at my first experience and I had taken a wrong route, being disqualified. I started doing triathlon only a year ago and at the first participation I won the Italian aquathlon . Today I tried to get an early advantage in the swimming, then pushed on in the cycling, so that I could control in my weakest fraction, the running fraction". In the women's category, on the other hand, the race was more hard-fought. First out of the lake was the Friulian Martina Mcdowell (Cus Udine), third in the recent Europe Triathlon Junior Cup stage in Romania. In the cycling fraction, kilometre after kilometre, a small group regrouped, then led by Federica Ferranti (Eroi del Piave). Emma Carniato (Eroi del Piave) and Mcdowell were the first to enter T2. What decided the women's challenge was the third and final stage, with Carniato stretching out and crossing the finish line first in 36'56'', followed by her Eroi del Piave teammates Alessandra Maso (37'28'') and Ferranti (37'58''). "I didn't expect today's victory, but I'm really very happy, also about the form in view of next week's Italian championships," said the 17-year-old from Treviso, a student at the sports scientific high school in the provincial capital, with a past in athletics. "Here in Revine I always feel good, especially for the cycling and running routes.
Then came the start of the race for the Youth B category, over the distances of 300 metres of swimming, 6 kilometres of cycling and two kilometres of running. Great celebration on the shores of Lake Santa Maria with the women's podium coloured entirely by Silca's red leotards with Giulia Secchi first in 26'13'', followed by Giulia Meneghetti in 26'51'' and Elisa Maria Cicchini (27'05''). The three girls, respectively 17 years old from Cozzuolo di Vittorio Veneto, 16 years old from Cordignano and 16 years old from Vittorio Veneto, wanted to dedicate this podium finish to their team-mate Pietro De Pizzol, whom they ran to embrace just after crossing the finish line. 'It was particularly nice to win here, practically at home, with the cheering of all our friends and families,' they said in chorus. 'Then sharing the podium is even nicer, because we are friends as well as teammates. We want to dedicate this podium to our teammate Pietro De Pizzol'. Pietro himself was awarded a medal, for the courage and strength with which, together with his parents and brother, he is tackling this 'race'. In the men's category, victory for Luca Degasperi (Dolomitica Nuoto) in 24'24'', ahead of Alessandro Passerini (Triathlon&Training; 24'40'') and Tommaso Oselladore (Tezze Triathlon; 24'43''). As for the Youth A category, victory for Aaron Franceschini (Leosport; 23'50''), ahead of Riccardo Cenedese (Silca Ultralite; 24'02'') and Pietro Spagnolo (Trio Schi; 24'13'') and for Carlotta Verde (TD Rimini; 25'13'') ahead of Vittoria Rossi (Leosport; 25'23'') and Rebecca Gava (Silca Ultralite; 25'53'').
The races dedicated to the youngest swimmers followed: among the Boys, victories for Leosport's Giacomo Reato and Noemi Molinaroli, among the Cubs for Leonard Fissneider (Bressanone Nuoto) and Rebecca Zorzi (Leosport) and among the Minicuccioli for Andrea Lancerotto (Tri Schio) and Olivia Wisthaler (Bressanone Nuoto).
Also present were the deputy mayor of Revine Lago, Thomas Sandrin and the councillor for sport, Elisa Carpenè and the vice-president of the Veneto Fitri committee, Enrico Novo and councillor Michele Bellemo. Deputy Mayor Sandrin wanted to thank the participants who coloured and animated the lakes area, the organisers and volunteers for their great work even behind the scenes, and the citizens, who had to deal with the road closures.
"Today, more than seeing who crossed the finish line first, it was nice to see the community spirit that triathlon can give,' commented Silca Ultralite Vittorio Veneto president Aldo Zanetti. 'Obviously, among the older athletes we had races with a good technical level, but the strongest emotion was given to us by the presence of our Pietro and the many little ones who discovered, in many cases for the first time, the magic of triathlon. I saw so many smiles and so much friendship, grit, and a crazy desire to compete. I would also like to thank the organisations, volunteers, partners who are always at our side, judges, and all the collaborators involved in the race.
