At the fourth edition of the Italian Duathlon Championships in Magione, in the Youth A and Youth B categories, two athletes took their team to the podium
Magione (PG), 12 April 2025 - Against the splendid Umbrian backdrop of the Autodromo Nazionale di Magione, Silca Ultralite Vittorio Veneto ASD placed its flag with skill and readiness.
The Italian Duathlon Championships, now in their fourth edition, were held in Magione, in the province of Perugia; an event that, for some years now, has represented one of the most significant appointments in the Italian panorama of the discipline.
An ideal location, with a route that is both technical and scenic, capable of reconfirming itself as a sports reference point for young people. Here, several emerging athletes from all over the territory put into practice the hard training and sacrifices made for their passion: sport. A race combining two running fractions, separated by a bicycle trial, in which the athletes showed determination, endurance, speed and technique.
Silca Ultralite and the strength of young talent
The Silca Ultralite team, based in Vittorio Veneto (TV), of which Silca is a proud sponsor, has confirmed its value, thanks to the effort and great skill of two girls. Under the expert guidance of coach Aldo Zanetti, the team achieved more than important results, which make the company proud. Rebecca Gava, 17, an athlete in the Youth B category, won the Italian title, displaying enormous talent, willpower and determination from the very first kilometres of the race. Giorgia Meneghetti, 15, from the Youth A category took third place, securing a well-deserved podium place and demonstrating technical excellence and great commitment, as did all the other Silca Ultralite athletes.
The results brought home bear witness to the constant work and attention paid to every detail in the training and preparation of athletes by the company, which has been investing in young people and their sporting growth for years. In addition to sport, Silca Ultralite is committed to promoting fundamental values, starting with sacrifice, passion, inclusiveness, respect and sustainability.
The team's president and coach, Aldo Zanetti, expressed his opinion based on the results: ‘The girls were not afraid to always be in the leading positions, even if they did not always do well in the changeover zones, especially Rebecca, who found a small obstacle in the second changeover fraction, coming out 21st, with only a few seconds left to recover, and managed to do an amazing run. It was a nice surprise. Giorgia achieved a very good placing, as she, too, regained ten to eleven positions in the last fraction, so she was not among the very first ones. The other athletes present also did very well, earning good scores.’
There was no lack of reaction from Rebecca Gava, winner of the Italian Duathlon Championships, Youth B category, who had long wanted to compete in this event, aiming to win it, as she herself reveals. For a few seconds she was afraid she would not succeed, but when the voice of her coach reached her ear, the thoughts vanished and courage and the will to succeed took over. ‘I didn't think any more and started to run as I was taught": these are the words of a girl who managed to fulfil her wish, standing on the top step of the podium, even though “the best thing was seeing the proud eyes of my parents, Aldo and my teammates”.
To the question ‘What is it that gives you and has given you the strength, drive and determination to reach your goal?’ Rebecca, with her answer, manages to convey the friendship and strength that binds this team, but also her maturity and the lessons learnt: ‘Determination definitely comes from the people around me, but above all from myself, because when you are competing, you are on your own, so you have to know yourself and manage fatigue, but also bad thoughts, in fact your head is fundamental.’
Giorgia Meneghetti, who qualified third in the Youth A category, was satisfied with the course of the race, which she said had an unexpected result. ‘The first run, in particular, went very well and in the bike section I improved compared to last year. However, as she says, in the second lap she had more difficulties, finding herself behind and alone. Despite the seconds and position that separated her from the other athletes and the podium, she gritted her teeth and catapulted towards the end, with an amazing recovery, with both feet firmly planted on third place. A race, that of Giorgia, that has something incredible about it; testimony to the hard work and the young athlete's ability not to give up.
